First of all you should know i hate the edo tensai.
I think it derailed the plot pretty hard, as madara said, one should not use forbidden jutsu so carelessly. I think kishi was talking to himself through madara. I think kishi did it as a last ditch writing attempt to tie all the loose ends of the plot together, and at the mean time give some characters some more resolve because he could not do it with the characters alive. example:
Naruto needed to see and confirm with Minato that he loves him, is the new savior, like his mom, blah blah blah
Sasuke needed to understand Itatchi try to FINALLY decide who he is going to be (avenger, or power seeking and devious like madara)
And the kage's needed to give the whole speal about the village.
Now wait! before you think this is a hate thread, there is one thing i do infact like about edo. That is Hiashi's story, it really improved the plot and really showed how all the kage were picking up where the previous left off. The only people who should have been edoized were Itatchi, Madara, Hiashi-4kage. the rest are irrelevant imo.
my pet peeve about it: edo/rinne tensai really takes away the seriousness of death away from the story, a death is supposed to be very meaningful. a good example: Dan, wtf? just came into the plot, taking panel time to compare naruto to nawaki, not fight at all, and magically fly on a dbz cloud to kiss tsunade on the forehead? no no no. bad writing Imho.
tldr: edo would have been awesome if it was used in moderation, i think kishi used it to tie up loose ends/give characters resolve before serious climax stuff is about to go down.
