1st. Naruto is very smart. Just a bit airheaded which is also the reason he is such a good ninja. I mean no other person on the planet would have tried to use Harem jutsu on a god. His stupidity works towards his ability to be unpredictable. Also the reason he was so capable against Kaguya. She was probably dumbfounded that she was fighting a semi-retard (no offense).
But Hashirama was kinda the same way. Because Hashirama was brought up in a war and had to fight as a kid in warring nations he had to be a better fighter who was more focused and more than likely careful with his fighting style.
But Naruto has really done nothing but have to learn to fight seriously every once in a while against people who were beyond his level which fueled his unpredictable fighting style. The fact that he is dumb or more so air-headed gives him a pure heart and the ability to do something all the other ninja before him couldn't. Remember the sage said that him being dumb made it more probable that they would win. It is kinda of a draw from Tom Sawyer. He see's whats wrong and makes simple observations as to what is wrong with the ninja world. I mean every generation since the six paths has used tailed beasts for war and never even thought about befriending them. Even Hashirama couldn't get past that barrier. He was made to be the Savior of the world, the child of Prophecy. Just my thoughts. Just don't like all the hate on his character. Now for the power ups, they were handed out to everyone. But Naruto was just the best at rolling with it since he was already thrown power with Kurama. (in my opinion the Kurama power up was legit, it was a long time coming and the reveal was sick as ****. But you have to admit. The kid is badass for ending a war in about 24 hours.
