Rap the greatest genre?

No genre is necessarily better than the other. Everything you described is not excluded to Rap. You sound like those Opera snobs who always look down on any other genre...just so close-minded. Ugh.

@bold: that is so true!lmao. every opera singer thinks everyone is singing incorrectly which isnt true and i hate. just different styles of singing and using the breath

Sure each genre has their own merits but even at its lowest (Desiigner "panda" or most future songs) it still has those internal rhymes schemes, and at the very least similes. Thats MILES ahead of where it started from.

Anyways its still my opinion at the end of the day. I'm not gonna look down on someone for feeling different

word play isnt exclusive to rap though but whatever
First off neither of the video's mentions wordplay. Its focus was mainly rhyme(it clear you didn't watch)

Second off its clear you lack reading comprehension when I said I wasn't going to do the very thing you claimed I did.

Lastly list it. Give me an example of a song that has 0 rap roots yet still contains everything mentioned in the video.
Internal rhyme schemes, standard rhymes, throw in a holorhyme for good measure, and as the same time reatin the ability to not only tell a story, but have cleaver wordplay while doing so to boot.

I'll wait.

yeah because rhyming isn't word play...
Not according to wikipedia:

Word play or wordplay[1] (also: play-on-words) is a literary technique and a form of wit in which the words that are used become the main subject of the work, primarily for the purpose of intended effect or amusement. Examples of word play include puns, phonetic mix-ups such as spoonerisms, obscure words and meanings, clever rhetorical excursions, oddly formed sentences, double entendres, and telling character names (such as in the play The Importance of Being Earnest, Ernest being a given name that sounds exactly like the adjective earnest).

Google define:

word·play
ˈwərdˌplā/Submit
noun
noun: wordplay; noun: word-play
the witty exploitation of the meanings and ambiguities of words, especially in puns.

Or, Dictionary.com:

wordplay
[wurd-pley]
Spell Syllables
Examples Word Origin
See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com
noun
1.
clever or subtle repartee; verbal wit.
2.
a play on words; pun.

No its not. Rhyming isn't playing with words, since the words themselves aren't the main subject -_-

Hence why each definition takes the time out to mention puns, double ententes and hidden meanings.

Rap is to music like bologna is to meat. Is it technically meat?...yeah. Is it good?...no, but sometimes you're in the mood for it. Would you bring it out at a cocktail party?...not if you want to be classy.

While rap is my favourite genre with rock, you can't just point rap's qualities out and say it's one of the best.
The truth is, no genre is better than any other. It's just a label of a type of music that ranges from tragic to brilliant... just like any other genre.

OT: Every genre has its positives, but none are inherently better than another.

OLD RAP >>>>>>>>>> your today's crap
Uhm... Yeah I funks with the 90s, but you can't go out and generalize all the mainstream rap songs and not dig the underground... (literally). You obviously haven't listened to Denzel Curry, Mick Jenkins, Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, Underachievers, Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino and a lot of excellent young artists.

Pardon the late reply and the bump but meh.
