Now allow me to explain why Naruto should have ended with either Part I, the Pain Arc or Chapter 698 and why at this point it should be rebooted all together!
Look, I am just going to sum this whole thing up the best way possible! Personally like someone said before me on the previous thread, the Naruto manga should have ended with Chapter 698 for a variety of reasons with one of which being that everything beyond that is virtually a nightmare.
I am going to exclude to pairings from this topic because I could honestly care less about them! The ONLY pairing in the entire series that makes legitimate sense is SkikaTema and the only one that sends a healthy and overall decent message to both genders if you really think about it!
Now that that is out of the way, here are the reasons why the series should have ended with chapter 698:
1. Ever since the Kaguya arc or more accurately the War Arc, the series for the most part has gone down hill, especially when it comes to the main characters which is my biggest problem with the series! The highlights of series beyond the war Arc being Madara who is probably one of the most well written characters in the series, the Naruto vs. Sasuke fight and Momoshinki who is another awesome villain and is better than the main characters.
2. If there was one saving grace when it comes to THE CHARACTERS of the Gaiden and the Boruto movie, (Fights were awesome btw, best since Part I and that's saying something!) It's Momoshinki, the best villain since Madara and Part I Orochimaru to appear! Unlike Kaguya, he is not only stronger, but has a personality. Damn shame he wasn't Kaguya's husband though, would have given more info on how Hagoromo and Hamura were even born lol. Him and Kurama, the ONLY character out of the main cast that has not been truly bastardized to the core like the others such as Naruto and Sasuke (which I will get into later on). But that is the issue! The fact that those two are saving graces says something.
3. The main characters as they currently stand! Old generation! Now a lot of people believe that the story should have ended with Part I because of what I am about to say, but here we go and it's going to be lengthy.
Let's start with Naruto shall we? He was once an icon who appealed to the common man, one that achieved his goals through hard work and determination which was what Part I was all about. This all changed with the Itachi Pursuit Arc and later the War Arc when Naruto became a character who was no longer the underdog, but instead a descendant of the greatest heroes to walk to verse and even beyond that the reincarnation of one of these great heroes brought to bare in the mortal world. That being said, the only difference between Naruto and Ashura at that point was that one of them (Naruto) was more stupid!! That's it!
As for Sasuke! Originally he wanted revenge on his older brother Itachi for killing his clan and was jealous of Naruto for getting stronger. However, again in the Itachi Purtsuit Arc (the end of it that is) shows Itachi's character being retconned (argue all you want, but this is a retcon if I see one!) and Tobi (thought to be Madara at the time) brainwashing Sasuke, making him completely emo and wanting to destroy the village and later wanting a "revolution".
The Itachi Pursuit Arc one could argue is when the story completely went astray from what is was in Part I!
Sakura has development in the Kazekage Rescue Arc, but that all went out the window for the most part right after that! Which is sad considering she is one of the main cast.
Kakashi had minimal development in early Part II with his Mangekyo Sharingan, but that went out the window soon, it came back via the biggest retcon in Naruto history with Obito inhabiting his body when he was battling Kaguya, but that was about it.
There are many other characters that I could dive into with this one, such as Neji and Rock Lee.
One could argue based on what I said about Naruto that Neji in Part I was right about destiny, maybe not for Naruto's case entirely, but when it came to hard work like with Rock Lee, Neji was right about fate. Cause if you take a good hard look, you will see how Rock Lee was everything Part I of the series was about. The fact that he had one major fight and didn't win a single one after that is pretty sad..
It's not really the series that I have a major problem with as much the main characters who have been bastardized. Hence why I believe that Naruto should have ended with Part I, cause even tho the series was still enjoyable after that, it came at the cost of the main characters, especially Naruto being bastardized (especially with the child of prophecy BS).
If not Part I, then either the Pain Arc or chapter 698 with rather than Naruto and Sasuke's arm's being blown off, it should have just ended with Naruto winning and the both of them lying on the ground exhausted and Sasuke undoing the IT and performing the Rinne Tensei in the end. Any of that would have been better than what we have gotten beyond chapter 698.
As Drake pretty much pointed out before me, The fact is that Chapter 699, The Last: Naruto the Movie (aka 699.5), The three Naruto manga specials known as The Rest, The Day Naruto became Hokage, Road to B, Chapter 700-710 are ALL 16 chapters of set-up for Boruto: Naruto The Movie which was overall good, but had a lot more potential.
That pretty much sums it up! Given what has happened to the series, especially with the new generation which was a massive let down culminating in Boruto being a simple cheater and having only one shining moment at the end of the fight with Momoshinki in the Boruto movie; The Boruto movie novel which explains that Kaguya needs a Zetsu army because there are Otsutsuki bandits like Momoshink and Kinshinki out there that would have gone after her Chakra tree *sigh*,I believe that Naruto needs to be rebooted and done properly! Like what was said in the first thread, I would definitely vote for someone with the OP of the previous thread's mentality as the writer of the series in all honesty!
