Kakashi's growth (or say) The progress in Kakashi's abilities.
Compared with other characters in their respective fields and considering their chakra reserves.

Compared with other characters in their respective fields and considering their chakra reserves.
Start with
Naruto
Naruto learned the Rasengan steps within half or one month (during search for Tsunade)
He mostly mastered in maintaining it in a week (during the Sannin Battle)
Then he was able to use it throughout using one clone.
Till this period he never used Kyuubi's chakra to perform it alone(without using Kyuubi's chakra) until Naruto vs Sasuke battle.
He learned Giant Rasengan (little going wild=>eyes like kyuubi)
But he mastered Rasengan. (even his clones can perform Rasengan)
Later he learned Rasen-Shuriken in less than a week.
Then Sage mode, Kyuubi chakra control, Friendship with Kyuubi.
He mostly mastered in maintaining it in a week (during the Sannin Battle)
Then he was able to use it throughout using one clone.
Till this period he never used Kyuubi's chakra to perform it alone(without using Kyuubi's chakra) until Naruto vs Sasuke battle.

Sasuke pulled it till three to four. (during Sasuke vs Gaara half Shukaku) (Along with the curse mark in control partly)
He used it twice or thrice without going out of chakra during Naruto vs Sasuke battle.
In Part II, Sasuke can use chidori many a times (as if using a kunai or shuriken to attack)
He advanced to Curse Mark Level II
He was able to use Kirin
Activated Susano'o.

Useless in Part I
Sakura learned the destructive power through controlling the chakra from Tsunade and was readily known to be the Junior Tsunade from Jiraiya.
Her true strength was shown during her fight with Sasori.

Shikamaru
He was not able to maintain the Shadow jutsus for a long time in Part I
He mastered every jutsu of Nara clan in terms of maintaining for a long time in Part II
He assisted Asuma during his fight with Hidan.
He fought with Hidan and Kakuzu later (to avenge Asuma).

Made Jounin in a very little age.
Kakashi > Sasuke (when Kakashi's age was equal to Sasuke's age in Part I)
Kakashi must have known about his MS but never used it. (since it drains a lot more chakra compared to using a normal Sharingan)
In Part I
Kakashi knew Itachi will be showing the Mangekyo Sharingan during his battle after Third Hokage's death. (he was under Itachi's Tsukuyomi)
Kakashi might have learned about Itachi's Amaterasu from Jiraiya. (Jiraiya sealed the formula in the scroll during Itachi & Kisame encounter with Sasuke, Naruto & Jiraiya)
In between Part I & II, Two and a half years gap
Kakashi must have trained to use the MS in future.
He got to know the side-effects of MS. (afterall he is the only person in the village after Sasuke who has Sharingan so as to reach the Secret Meeting place of the Uchihas where the Uchiha Tablet is.)
In Part II
During Gaara Rescue Arc, he fought with duplicate Itachi, that too not at full scale. Later he fought with no one insead used his MS power Kamui twice to teleport Deidara's arm and his exploding clone.
During Pain's Invasion, he fought with two Pain's body using his lightning clone and exhausting half of his chakra, and later died using instant Kamui to teleport away the nail and the rocket.
After Danzo's death, he again used instant Kamui to teleport away Sasuke's Susano'o arrow. Even then he was able to punch Sasuke hard with speed (when Naruto saved Sakura)
Even then, Kakashi travelled till Konoha without break later (I think so)
Then why can't Kakashi use Kamui so many times. He got time for training after Five Kage Summit. He might have focused on sharping Kamui skills to its full against Madara(Tobi) during the war.
Naruto grasped every possible strength to fight
Neji, to prove that he can change the fate of being a loser,
Gaara, to save Sakura and Sasuke,
Sasuke, to save him from Orochimaru(Part I),
Deidara, losing control after Gaara's death,
Orochimaru, losing control after remembering his battle with Sasuke to save him,
Pain,to avenge Jiraiya, Kakashi and to save the village.
Sasuke grasped every strength possible to
avenge his clan, killed by Itachi,
fight Gaara, so as not to lose his precious friends Naruto and Sakura,
surpass Naruto, after witnessing Naruto strength,
capture Hachibi, to save his team Taka.
fight the Kages, during his infiltration at the Five Kage Summit,
fight Danzo, to avenge Itachi's suffering.
Then don't you think, Kakashi can grasp strength against Obito to protect Naruto and to understand Obito's behaviour. Also, Kakashi used Kamui three times before Obito's revelation and then pushed himself further to protect Naruto after systematic dose of Talk no Jutsu from Naruto & Gai and Obito's taunts.
For now, Kishi is focusing on battle of Obito and Kakashi. That is why he kept him alive. Maybe Obito and Kakashi will die together this time.
