Base Mode = Powers / jutsus / feats achived without cells from another, eyes, DNA, Bijuu chakra or all that sort...He does not need any of that to achieve sage mode so it is part of his base powers...even without it he trumps madara in the battle.

Definition one: Only using one's own chakra, SM is not base
Definition 2: Only using powers achieved on one's own instead of taking it from someone/thing else. SM is base
