Of course it was, Gai had a clear path to Madara, no reason not to hit him directly if he could. Now if Madara was completely incased inside his TSB even then, from what was shown, i think Gai would break through at least one side of it after a few hits of night elephant hitting Madara inside or quickly taking advantage of the opening he made and rush in for a direct hit like he did in the manga.

Anyways madara already blocked evening elephants air pressure, so he can block the pressure of EE no biggee, a direct hit of EE with guys fists is stronger though, but guy can't hit the tsb with his fists directly or he gets disintegrated, night moth is the only attack that I see bypassing tsb coz it warps the space around it, so it's technically unblockable

Gai had a clear path to Madara on most of the other steps as well.
I disagree. The air pressure alone from the five steps of EE wouldn't have been enough to break through the shield. Gai would have needed a direct hit to take out a TSB shield, which he wouldn't get unless he had help.
