He was strong, he must be as the leader of Uchiha. But that alone doesn't mean he could go around solo rest of Konoha.. Yet he had confidence that he could take Konoha on and rule it, where does this confidence is coming from ? And what happened to that confidence when Itachi turned against him ?

Answer is simple, Lord Itachi was the source of that confidence. Fugaku was expecting Lord Itachi to solo Konoha neg diff. But when Lord Itachi turned against him he knew Itachi would solo him neg diff so he surrendered acting proud and hiding his fear.. Well played Fugaku, well played..

Just look at Fugaku here, his face tells everything.. 'Oh shit there goes the coup'

He probably had a lot of confidence in the uchiha in general and not just himself or itachi.

But he was going against Konoha either way.. Only difference was Itachi switched sides, and this tells only reason he surrendered and even planned the rebellion was he believed Lord Itachi would solo Konoha. Thats why he surrendered, he knew Lord Itachi was to much so he kept his pride and didn't want to embarrass himself.

Just because Itachi switch side made no deference. Hurizen and Danzou were confident that they could have won, but with major casualties on their side.

Yes but that doesn't effect Fugaku's resolve. Fugaku was aware of Konoha's forces obviously, yet still willing to take Konoha on. He wouldn't made plans of rebellion if he didn't know about Konoha forces after all, he knew his forces are enough to deal with them.

It is not the matter of whether they had enough power or not objectively. Fugaku's subjective opinion was that Uchiha was enough which is the matter. But his opinion changed after Itachi switched sides. This shows Fugaku was expecting Lord Itachi do the heavy lifting, and solo most of Konoha. But when he realized Uchiha became the weight, he forfeited immediatly fearing Lord's wrath.

Surprise attacks are only effective when they are a surprise. He realized Konoha's top brass were already prepare for Uchiha.

He gave up because he realized the higher ups already knew of their plans to overthrow them thanks to Itachi. Without the element of surprise or Itachi on their side, he simply resigned himself to die by his own son's hands instead of against a village ninja.

Hiruzen had attempted peace talks with Fugaku and failed. Fugaku clearly awares that they know yet didn't backed out until Itachi switched sides. This cover blown argument is hardly convincing.
