Why don't people know the difference?

I encounter so many comments and videos on Facebook, YouTube, etc. that don't seem to know the difference between Systemic Oppression and Racism.

To those people, racism is only a thing people with "power" can do. They believe that black people as well as other minorities can't be racist to white people because the white people have power and do not suffer oppression.

Racism - thought or belief that one race is inferior/superior to another. Can also act on this belief in a violent way.

So I pose the question, why do these people not know the difference and why do they constantly think racism requires power, when the official definition and the way the word has been used for years does not include power?

Feel free to post your own opinions and encounters.

Agreed 100%. What's funny to me is I once saw someone who believes in the whole "Racism is systematic oppression" thing say that racism isn't just large stuff, it's the little jokes too in reference to whites making jokes about blacks. And I'm like ??? but not the other way around too?

It makes me sad to see black people, especially on social media, do to white people what they'd crucify a white person for doing. Like, even if you wanna make racist jokes, at least have the gall to own up to what you're doing.

The media and others have led so many people astray. I too have seen this, except in my case it was with the fact that women can't be sexist to men. Which is baffling to me how many people actually think these things. I always wondered what people's answers who believe this would be to the question, "If racism is systemic oppression, then what is a word to describe the hate and belief that one race is inferior/superior to another?" I can guarantee they'd be lost.

Not in a power sense. Inferior/superior meaning that someone believes that because they are a specific race, they are somehow better than that of a person who is a race different from them.

Could be a perspective thing - how they portray the world. That's why it's so hard to understand.

But taking a minute and typing into google search, "Racism definition" will clear any sort of doubt of what racism actually means.

And those without can be as well.

But there is no perspective thing. Racism is simply the BELIEF or THOUGHT of this. No Black, White, Asian or Latino person needs power to have these beliefs. This is the problem that I am trying to comment on.

Those things are never enough for irrational people. You can show some people as many definitions as you can but it wouldn't change anything.

Yes but the common thought is that those wih power can't be terrorists ,they give it other names like war ,though those with power has caused terror the most through the history.

I had the fortunate event of actually seeing someone who believes this realize that what they thought was wrong, which made me have some sort of hope for the new generation lol.

This is very true indeed.

Bro, I'm simply answering the question as simply as possible.

Why do these people not know the difference?

They weren't taught the difference. This is something they figured out on their own or through relatives or friends.

Why do they constantly think racism requires power when the official definition and the way the word has been used for years do not include power?

If the definition itself has the word superior or inferior, people's automatic thought to this is power.

Superior - a person or thing superior to another in rank, status, or quality, especially a colleague in a higher position. (Example: Boss; Supervisor, etc.)

Those are in a position of power, regardless if their minority or majority, they have control.

This is how those people think.

Everyone probably knows everything race can be racist no exceptions.

The thing what is cringe worthy is people who use the race card for sexism and anti-religion too. Just go on YouTube or fb and say woman, Muslims, jews, hindu's, Buddhists are &@%# and I bet Alot of retards will say That is "racist"

Racism is just a mindset and people tend to assume entitlement due to their ignorance, which is possible to correct given someone puts enough effort imo.
