Why don't manga characters look asian?

Well how would you draw asian characters in manga? As far as the manga goes it's just a story. Not an "asian" story. The fact that it's a Japanese manga really doesn't mean much when you think about it. It's just characters in a story

I'd draw characters that would look asian, rather than white. The main reason for the thought is seeing live action things like Dragon Ball Evolution where all the characters except Goku are asian while in the manga/anime they all look white.

You're absolutely right though that the characters in the story don't have to be asian. Although they usually dress in traditional asian garb, act in tradional asian ways, and eat traditional asian food...with all that going on I'd expect them to look asian to is all.

It might have something to do with the originator of the drawring style which is the basis for anime/manga modeling his characters after Bambi.That's why so many characters have those ridiculously big eyes in mangas.

why should they look asian????

They should look Asian, because:

1.) Everything else about the character, other then their looks, are Japanese.

2.) It would immediately eliminate situations like the whole "Racebending" conversation that came with The Last Airbender movie when the movie was cast based on the look of the actual illustrated characters.

It's just the style of drawing. They're not realistically drawn, they just look more Caucasian because they don't look Asian. Every realistically drawn manga I've seen, they look Asian.
