Why doesn't Shikamaru look to heavily improve his chakra control?

Why would he need to? During the Hidan/Kakuzu fight, he was able to control his shadow jutsu so precisely that he was able to thread his shadow through the small holes in the chakra blade. To me it looks like he already has a good sense of chakra control.

i think he should look to improve his chakra reserves somehow as it takes more chakra to bind someone with powerful chakra....

Yeah, if anything it would be his reserves.

He knows his limits and plans out his battles so he doesn't just meaninglessly waste chakra.
