Why doesn't anyone take the substitution Jutsu in account for battles?

Aside from the advanced ones like Orochimaru's and Killer B's, it just seems like the normal one used with a log is Kishimoto's way of saving shinobi through the hand of god.

It is because that move is one of the most cheapest moves in all of Naruto. It barely uses any chakra yet it can get you out of almost anything. The only legit ones are those that Orochimaru, Hebi Sasuke and Killer bee use because they take a huge amount of chakra which is a fair trade off unlike those log substitutions which even Sakura, Iruka and Konohamaru can spam day in and day out. There is a reason why Kishimoto doesn't use it any more, because it is cheap and very anti-climatic. Too bad the anime fillers still use it sometimes.

Honestly? It gets little - no use anymore; and it's extremely versatile and it would be overused to heck. Example;

How would X escape from Y --> "Subs"

How would X avoid Y? --> Subs

It's so dumb how randomly substitution works. Sasuke should have been captured there.

the issue is, if you're caught in something like that it'll work. But, lets say, if somebody like Hashirama, Kisame, or Tobirama using water jutsu/Mokuton has you surrounded, it'll be worse than useless. That's why its not used often.
