[Question] Why does the Ignore button exist?

if they can also see your posts and view them, what's the point of having an ignore button?
usually when a site has an ignore button you can't see their posts and they can't see yours

so how come you can chose weather or not to see their post but they can still see yours?
i feel as if this ignore button is kind of useless

isn't the ignore button supposed to be for stopping conflict between you and someone else by not letting either of you see each other's posts at all?

Because YOU put them in YOUR ignore list, not the other way around.
I must say that the ignore list is working wonders by clearing members from conflicts.
Should conflicts still be going contact a moderator if rules are broken.
