When i saw this all the time during the manga, i thought it was because of the nine tails influence after it got sealed inside him, but now we know that Naruto was born with it

In pre shippuden it made sense because we never saw Naruto literally at birth, so it was a good assumption that the nine tails gave him the whiskers. I'm pretty sure the real answer is someone messed up and drew the whiskers on him before the nine tails sealing, and its too late to play it off.

Most likely the influence the Kyuubi's chakra had on Naruto when he wasn't born. . .

Or some really odd birthmarks. . .

And in decreasing order of likely hood. . .

He truely is a (reeeeaaallly) direct descendant of the Sage of Six Paths, the Ginkaku and Kinkaku (Don't know how ta' spell their names,) had the markings on their faces and they were said to be direct or very close descendants of the Sage.

I think it's like how the sharingan was once basically a copy jutsu thing in the early stages. Kishi drew him up well before thinking about his mother, and the lines were a hint of the fox being in him, like whiskers or something. I don't think there's any deep hidden reason other than it was the beginning of the show and that's just how he drew him up

which makes me wonder if kurama does get extracted if naruto will still have some if it's chakra
