Why does Madara still need a mask?

Not really, the Amaterasu was set to activate when sasuke was looking into madara's sharingan eye. If he doesn't have his mask on but a deactivated sharingan it should be fine.

So why did Amaterasu only active when Madara took the mask off?
I know that sounds kinda like illogical, but he also put it back before showing himself again, ater getting attacked by Amaterasu.
Itachi placed the rigged Amaterasu in Sasuke and it activates when Sasuke see's Madara's Sharingan (he wanted to protect Sasuke from Madara), It would have been a perfect trap if Madara couldn't put the flames out.
He put his mask back on simply because any time Sasuke would look into his eye's he'd get torched, Still Madara had to (and still has to) stick by Sasuke (to save his ass and so on) so not having his head burned off would help him a lot.

also because from a writers point of view hes more mysterious and therefor more interesting ... i mean i went

It's one of few good mysteries that Kishi still has left in his bag, so it's easy to see why the unveiling of his face would be used at a significant time. Also he would probably look worse then the combined lovechild of Raido, Ibiki and Obito's smashed face.
It was when he locked his Sharingan onto Sasuke's Sharingan.

On the other hand why we havent seen his face well first of all becuase its just one of those things where we want tog o and see his face etc. Reminds me a bit of the whole Kakashis mask thing xD.
