Why does Kisame look like a shark?

Kisame doesn't have gills, those are facial marks just like Naruto's 'whiskers'. We know they are not actual whiskers, just facial marks. They are all over the narutoverse who are shared by characters like Chouji and Kiba. It wasn't until he actually fused with Samehada that he grew actual gills.
As for his sharp teeth, the sharp teeth are shared by other citizens of the village, but most notably past swordsman. Chojuro, Suigetsu, Mangetsu, Fuguki, Zabuza and others all had sharp teeth. Therefore, it was either a practice of swordsman to sharpen their teeth, or it was a village trait.
The blue skin.... not as explainable but we do have characters like Oro who looks like he's constantly wearing makeup. That one is more likely a character trait chosen for uniqueness rather than having a logical explanation... and perhaps the Akatsuki monster thing others have brought up.
