Akira is pretty bad with his memory (he legit forgot launch existed lol) if you recall during DBS he had to ask his editors what android 18's hair color was hence also the confusion on the whole trunks hair thing.
The other thing I believe is animation choice or design changes in general (people complaing why dbs chars appear less buff for example) every episode or x episodes to y have different key animators and a director its why even in dbz the animations felt inconsistent at times, this is a problem with most long running series in general the HST is particularly notorious for this.
