But I do care if you write on mine. You don't add anything and only put more wood to the fire. I'm not the kind of guy who takes initiative for conflicts, but as long as you try to force your opinion through my threads or threads that I agree with, I'll always write down my opinion. Even if you don't care.

To be fair, he and I are similar in that regard. I consider few people my honest equal. Others just have their moments where they achieve sentience.

But there's a hostility there that is just intense and undue. So I'm curious what the source of it is. The "I'm better than you" chastising is just an expression of some other conflict, not its source.

It's a part of any fandom. Anyone can like whatever they want. Those who make a big deal out of it are the extremes. I have couples, non Naruto related, I ship to death, but I'm calm about it. All varies.

What can I say? I'm bored and enjoy anime while having saved up more than enough money in my line of work to live comfortably with plenty of spare time.

But, to be honest, that's relatively boring. I'll migrate on from this phase to a more productive one before much longer.

I do, however, agree with you. Of all in our gifted education programs - I always stood out as one of the sharpest; I learned ahead of what was taught, was able to recall spontaneous facts and pieces of information with only a single exposure to the material... a "prodigy" in a few regards. I was to do great things - to surpass all of my peers, and to solve some of the toughest engineering and scientific challenges in this world.

Some things happened, Mom fought cancer and died... dad didn't wake up one day - family fell apart around me (just in time for the economy to implode). And it was all I could manage to wake up in the morning for quite some time.

Could have had a PhD by now. Could be heading up special projects development in Northrop-Grumman or be serving on a team trying to crack through to viable fusion power (don't have the credentials to get involved in that - no matter how deep my understanding of physics may be and theories I have on how to achieve the desired result). My life, thus far, has been anything but what it should have been.

But... I did gain some insight that few others do. Honestly, I have a more solid idea of what I want to do in this world, now, than I ever could have going along that 'ideal' path. Sure - I start out a tad behind the curve; but I have to give the other guys a fair chance, right?

So... what about you?

Debates and passionate discussions can be fun. ... But it's not so easy to simply throw what people say out the window. Our society often lacks appreciation for words.

And I don't think of any of these people as "inferior", really. I'm probably not all that smarter than them.

I am not above embellishing my history through introducing some overly dramatic statements... but I was (still am?) quite the intellectual hot-shot growing up and it was expected I would go on to do some pretty impressive stuff.

Not that my life is over, or anything - just that I had higher expectations of myself for this point in my life.

You've got to understand... I like to flex my character around a little bit. I play up my vindictive and bitter side for effect, or the "wise old guy" role... the hyper kid - whatever I feel the discussion needs or would be the most fun. Which is how I usually act in person.

One minute, I'm "raptor jesus" hobbling around the dining room while making strange gurgling noises. The next I'm hopping in the car to help my room mate find his girlfriend's missing kids. Then I'm playing "Uncle Shane" to the kids. And I wrap it all up with a short little philosophical/spiritual speech about life and something I've learned.

Then I go play with the Marines and enjoy taking turns beating the hell out of each other (I'm a light guy and they enjoy the fact that they can throw me really far and I just bounce back up like Gumby).
