I think I have a type.

Marvel/X-Men = Remy LeBeau/Gambit.
Final Fantasy 7 = Vincent Valentine.

Tall, dark, brooding, handsome, red eyes - tragic figures who are continuingly f*cked over and over again.

What I appreciate the most about Itachi is that he's the embodiment of "shinobi" - he's endured a hell of a lot, granted much of it was his own making but still - kudos.

I like his fighting style, techniques - the crows - the genjutsu, the terrifying notion that in his early teenage years he could defeat someone like Orochimaru.

That his skill, talent and prodigal skill in... well, pretty much ALL the shinobi arts is countered with his pacifist ideals, his utter lack for world domination and mass destruction and his love for his foolish little brother.

His overall backstory, his bromance with Shisui - and his epic little speeches, for a man who doesn't talk a whole lot - what he does say has a lot of weight/importance to it.

That he's not like the others, emotionally void and sadistic. He has a heart, he cried when he killed his parents, he felt guilt and remorse - he wanted to be punished for what he did, by dying at the hand of another Uchiha, his brother.

He also provided some of the best scenes - I believe - in the manga. Ex: Execution of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha, Death by Sasuke, Itachi vs. Nagato, Itachi and Sasuke vs. Kabuto, Itachi's Farewell to Sasuke.
