I think your 3 reasons are correct, when it come to not reaching our maximum mental potential simply said more you use your current potential more new potentials that it gonna present to you .
about the 3rd reason, if you don't express your ideas either in words or writing you can't figure out what really that idea is and the real potential that idea presents to you and by expressing it many will present their own ideas or their view point about it that means you can develop your ideas further more brushing it off with their knowledge and experiences . .
