[Discussion] Why do we call black people...

African Americans? Why is this even a thing? Why can we not just be called black people, as whites are generalized as white people. Why does everyone with dark skin certainly and undoubtedly have to be from Africa? We're African American while white people are just American? uttahere:

If you're born in America you're an American. Really should be that simple. What happens if you're black and living in America, but from St. Lucia? You're not an African American. We're really caught up in categorizing people.

Because White people, particularly males, have never had their identity taken away from them. They can be called "white" and still trace their roots very easily. The black people of today have no idea where they are from, thanks to Whites. Plus, someone can "look" African-American and be from Belize, Dominican Republic, etc and not want the association we have here with "black" because they feel more in touch with traditional Hispanic culture.

Oh and don't give me the whole "African Americans were heavly discriminated against" logic. I am Irish and there were Irish slaves and they were discriminated against as well. Just cut the shit. Time will change that because that's not necessarily true. European white people have had their identities taken away too by invading entities such as Normans conquering England, Rome conquering Europe, Norse breeding into Scotland, France, Holland...etc. The fact is a white person may think they're German, but that's not completely true. It's just that so much time has gone by that no one remembers or knows that your distant ancestor was raped by a Danish invader resulting in your genetic alteration. It's a sad reality of humanity.

I mean in terms of when I apply for a position of some sort. It's usually;"Are you Hispanic, White, or African American".
