Whatever's left in the needle might neutralize the lethal injection and not have any effect! :Q

Cause you don't want to get an infection and die, Unless by "lethal" you mean a syringe carrying a deadly solution inside that would cause your death.

Good question btw.

Incase there is a stay of execution at the last minute. It's performed with an IV, so obviously there is a large window between the moment when the needle is inserted and the execution where a stay might be delivered.

If the prisoner was saved but still died due to an infection, the prison could have a wrongful death lawsuit against them.

I thought this would be obvious.

After someone is sentenced for the death penalty it takes months or maybe longer for them to actually execute the person convicted. So I highly doubt it.
