During his last months, I'd hear my grandfather pray to God nearly every night and pleading to live longer. I've just been confused about it ever since then. I'm certain that he had belief that he'd go to heaven, so what's with the pleading? You read stories about how people have endured torture or whatever else and held onto life, yet many of these people are also religious. Why would they put themselves through torture when heaven's waiting for them if they give in?

It's not a religious thing. Survival is the natural human instinct. It just so happens your grandfather was praying about it as religious people pray to their God in times of crisis. Go try drowning yourself. It won't work as planned. You'll probably fail as well unless you throw yourself in a river or something. It isn't really that anyone is scared to die. Our brain naturally has an instinct to survive and protect our body. People who are not scared of this, something is wrong with their brain ex: PTSD, psychosis, sociopathy, etc. Being religious has little to do with it. Having heaven possibly waiting for us on the other side doesn't supercede how our brain works.

To me it seems like most religious people don't really live their life like they know there is an afterlife waiting for them. They seem attached to the world in the same ways non-religious people are.

Religious people are humans, and I think it's like an instinct to fear death.

If we do live longer, it would be because of technology and not God. Praying to God is pointless, everything lies in our own hands. Instead of worrying about death it is much better to live in the present to the fullest. Those who do that do not fear death.

Its a sign of major disconnect from nature aside of religion thriving on fear and ignorance.
Deep spiritual experiences on natural DMT rich organisms helps relieve the fear of death and get back in tune with mother earth.

People say that to dismiss religious belief I think most people religious or irreligious dont really think about death in there everyday

And no ones not going to just believe something based on a gamble doesn't mean they have good reason but dont think death plays into most reasoning in faith

It's not death many fear, but how they lived. Maybe many want to make amends for how they were during their earlier life, so the Judgement is easier on them. There are others want to spend more time with their kids, grandkids and impart the wisdom they have gathered. They can't do that in death. Then there are people who enjoy life.

It’s not the first time I see you bring up DMT. Stop it. Say no to drugs.

Why do most people tend to be opiniated on things they have no understanding of?

Why do you assume I know nothing of DMT?

Because you said; "say no to drugs" as if it is comparable to heroine. It is dismissive and perpetuates ignorance regarding compounds that shatter illussions and have been proven to have healing properties for your brain and mental state. There is much more to it then just a 'trip'. I'm not advocating for anyone to go hunting psychedelics but to actually study it. It took me 7 years of reading up on it before I tried it out.

I'm not sure how true is that, I've known some religious people that's been readily embracing death because they have strong connections or beliefs in God. I think it's how they lived that others were concerned about fearing death when it comes. For all we know, not all religious people have been religious ever since, some were forced to be religious because of dire circumstances.
