Being nontraditional is not a bad thing. I actually get really sick of seeing hardcore extreme traditional people attacking non traditional people(and I'm not talking about all traditional people). These people do like it's taboo to be non traditional. Just a few days ago someone told me that I shouldn't worry about being a nurse over being a mother because as a mother I would be my kids teacher and I am young foolish girl. Like I'm not even a mom and I want to be a pediatric nurse so I will automatically be dealing with kids. I'm not with the whole traditional gender role stuff and it's fine if someone else wants to be like that but not me. I remember my college literature class was having a talk about gender norms and a good amount of the class said they are for them. One girl even said her boyfriend told her his feelings would be hurt if she had a better job than he ever did. When the teacher got to me I told her that a lot of people like to put pressure on my boyfriend because he isn't in college and I am. They try to tell him is a failure because I might be making more money than him but we think those people are close-minded.I told my boyfriend that he isn't a failure as a boyfriend because I love him regardless of the money he will make.Like why is it so important to these people for everyone to be traditional ? Social norms. It's like some people buy into them and attack the people that don't fit. Me and him are extreme non traditional.
Us-
-Non religions(if we categorized ourselves we would be considered Pan agnostic(me) and Atheist(him) ) African-Americans
-We see each other as equals and no one is over the other
-We both cook together and clean up together( for the most part)
-We both want to be providers
We've been attack a number of times. I remember one of his sisters attacked me and called me "an evil monkey"
at one point because I'm not religious(but she chilled though). We even get weird looks when we say how we are.
What's so wrong with us not being traditional? Nothing at all. Why are some people prudes about people like me and my boyfriend? Like we aren't killing them..If they wanna be traditional then fine but tripping over non traditional people isn't cool.
