Being nontraditional is not a bad thing. I actually get really sick of seeing hardcore extreme traditional people attacking non traditional people(and I'm not talking about all traditional people). These people do like it's taboo to be non traditional. Just a few days ago someone told me that I shouldn't worry about being a nurse over being a mother because as a mother I would be my kids teacher and I am young foolish girl. Like I'm not even a mom and I want to be a pediatric nurse so I will automatically be dealing with kids. I'm not with the whole traditional gender role stuff and it's fine if someone else wants to be like that but not me. I remember my college literature class was having a talk about gender norms and a good amount of the class said they are for them. One girl even said her boyfriend told her his feelings would be hurt if she had a better job than he ever did. When the teacher got to me I told her that a lot of people like to put pressure on my boyfriend because he isn't in college and I am. They try to tell him is a failure because I might be making more money than him but we think those people are close-minded.I told my boyfriend that he isn't a failure as a boyfriend because I love him regardless of the money he will make.Like why is it so important to these people for everyone to be traditional ? Social norms. It's like some people buy into them and attack the people that don't fit. Me and him are extreme non traditional.
Us-
-Non religions(if we categorized ourselves we would be considered Pan agnostic(me) and Atheist(him) ) African-Americans
-We see each other as equals and no one is over the other
-We both cook together and clean up together( for the most part)
-We both want to be providers

We've been attack a number of times. I remember one of his sisters attacked me and called me "an evil monkey":lmao: at one point because I'm not religious(but she chilled though). We even get weird looks when we say how we are.
What's so wrong with us not being traditional? Nothing at all. Why are some people prudes about people like me and my boyfriend? Like we aren't killing them..If they wanna be traditional then fine but tripping over non traditional people isn't cool.

People fear what they don't know. If you're non-traditional, they do not know how you behave yourself on a day to day basis.
I categorize myself as an atheist. And I live smack in the middle of the bible belt. So I know quite a bit about this. I'm sorry if you've had any bad experiences.

On a sidenote your man isn't in college?
He better have a fire ass mixtape coming up or already hooked up in some sort of business boo.
Love can set you back.

Gender norms are dumb for the most part. I will say that if I ever get married, I want it so my wife doesn't have to work. She can if she wants to, but I like the idea that my hard work would provide for my family entirely.

Side note: What's a pan agnostic? What's with all these new-age labels now? Like pan sexual. What does that even mean? You either like dudes, chicks, or both. Pretty simple. Maybe I'm just getting old and out of touch with the youth of today

He is going to the army.

I had plans to join the army. I'm in highschool right now. My JROTC rank is above my avatar. I'm a junior now so I have to make the decision soon. My girlfriend really doesn't want me to, and will leave me if I enlist.
Anyway, I understand. My stepmother once told me (discussing my plan to enter the military my atheism was brought up),"When you're out there, you'll pray to God."
Which truly showed how she felt about it all. She doesn't think that atheism exists. It's a ruse, and I'm just a child. It's a drag but...*sighs* she's quite ignorant of common knowledge.

Pansexuality perplexes me as well. The google definition is confusing. Maybe someone on the forum would be kind enough to explain?

I agree, one hundred percent.

Mother and I face this challenge a lot because we are very non traditional souls, but it's important to shake off all the negativity. Be happy and let it all go. If you're in love, like Mother and I, that is all that matters. Just the two of you. If you do not have a soul mate, the same still applies.

Be you. Do you. Love you. That is all that matters.

Pan=All ,Agnostic-a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God...PanAgnostic-all things can or can't be god. and Idk what pansexual is.

I assumed you were older lol.You seem pretty mature. The girl you are with doesn't seem that mature. She should support your choice and not threat to leave you. I say that if she does leave than she wasn't the one and find someone better. I was told that I was confused because I am pan agnostic.the people that say that to me think I'm atheist or a satanist even though I explain what I would be. lol amazing.

.

I know what both those things are, but why combine them? What kind of belief is anything could or couldn't be god? That seems illogical to me

It is possible though. It's not really illogical. We don't know if we all created each other or not.But apparently someone just got butthurt and neg repped me.

This is simple to answer, but hard to fix. Because the issue is in both persons.

It is all about instinct. We have a natural instinct that tells us to protect ourselves from anything that poses as a potential threat to us.
Regardless of this being a territorial threat, belief, religion, etc.
If you keep your existence long enough among these people that see you as a threat, you will soon be considered one of them and get to be accepted.

*Also, be careful that you judge someone by how they make you feel. While you might do the same thing to others without even noticing. Usually the people who complain about something are the people who do it themselves. Because one's mind cannot see what it cannot do.

To make it short: people will always protect their beliefs, traditions from someone who is nontraditional by fighting them with their own known way. It is a conservation instinct that tells you: "I fought and had a hard time to make this "tradition" strong and also believe in it. I will not let you shatter my hard work and make my spent time feel useless."
Why ? Well accept it or not, you, yourself a "nontraditional" have your own traditional way of doing things. The way you wanna do things is a tradition but just not accepted by the community yet.

In my opinion you should grow some skin if you already decided on which road to walk on.

"Grow some skin." I'm expressing an opinion.I'm not one of those people that let people tell me whatever they want. I wouldn't be destroy anything for the traditional person because they can be traditional if they like too.

Pain and persecution can cause one to mature mentally...quite early it seems. And well, I agree.
And I know what you mean. Not only do most people think we're,'confused,' usually upon finding out, they immediately look down upon you... :lmao: Gosh, it's hard to be around my family during the holidays as well. No respect.

Yea I completely understand

Well I'm not up here telling people to be non traditional. I just wanna know why some people make it problematic. If anything you should grow up. Telling people that are babies is pretty immature and clearly you fail to understand my post.
