I don't think that many people want him to die particularly, they just want him to stay alive the least (along with Tsunade). What I mean is that everyone wants Kages to die and feel Oonoki is the most fitting candidate because of his age, even though the people that have been most useful in the Madara fight are the ones people want to die the most.

Ohnoki is an old midget with an alcoholic's nose... he's merely a more suitable candidate for death than the young and healthy kages. Tsunade isn't so young either, but she is generations younger than Ohnoki, and I'd much rather read a series with Tsunade as a prominent character than a series with Ohnoki.

Aesthetically, Ohnoki is also one of the least appealing characters in the entire series (...in my opinion), so it's no surprise people want to see an appealing villain like Madara defeat him.

weakest??? if anything he is the strongest! he could take any of the kages. he has the strongest attack, the kekki tota. the only thing is he is slow so it would be hard to hit the rikage.
