People just want characters to die because in a war there are supposed to be casualties, but so far the only people who've been killed are fodder. It's not Onoki specifically but in general people want characters to die.

It's not that they want to see Oonoki die, it's just that they want somebody important to die to make the war feel real. Instead of just fodder ninjas dying.

Yeah, it isn't much of a war seeing as a massive main character no jutsu is taking place, preventing anyone important from dying. Kill Kakashi, Oonoki, Tsunade, SOMEONE. Someone has to die. This is a war, not the chuunin exams...In fact, the Chuunin exams felt more dangerous...

As other say - a war has big casaulties. So far, there has been very little of that - it has yet to happen. Seeing as Oonoki is indeed old and badly hurt, it's only in your nature to think that he's the first one to fall. It's what Kishimoto is offering us/ letting us think this way.
