Why do people treat all rasengan variants as the same jutsu?

I think the main issue people are having is the fact that it still remains (with the exception of close range rasengans - projectile rasengans) basically the same jutsu. The variations come when Naruto borrows power from one of the bijuu.

Sasuke also uses katon and raiton techniques, genjutsu, ninjutsu and taijutsu. /JUSTSAYIN - bearing in mind we are discussing two ninjas abilities to learn different techniques, as well as mastering the existing techniques they already possess.

I do see some truth in your last sentence, however it does also prove that he has not learnt that many alternative jutsus.

They are different, it doesn't mean I wouldn't like Naruto to learn some actual different Jutsu though. Even some weapons training would be a good change of pace. (Too late now). In saying that most of Sasuke's attacks are just variants of the Chidori and MS Jutsu... Same thing really.

So a rasengan with sealing properties (magnet) is redundant? What about one that negates ninjutsu and destroys matter on contact (Referring to when he used his truth seeking balls and made them rasenshurikens to destroy the meteors)?

Wind style rasenshuriken, planetary rasengan, mini rasenshuriken etc... don't come from the bijuus and they produce different effects. Therefore, not all of the variation comes from borrowed power.

Also, it is irrelevant whether the power is "borrowed" or not. If he uses it in a battle and you have no way to counter it, then the fact that it was borrowed won't change the severity of the situation you are in. You are still screwed either way!

You could get shot with a gun that I borrow or one that I pay for myself, but in the end you are still dead anyway.

Rasengan is the parent jutsu, but it is not the jutsu itself.

Is a shot gun the same as a water gun just because they are both guns? Are you your parents just because you came from your parents?
