Why do people think Nagato is super powerful

It might have to do with the fact he mastered all of the elements and yin yang release by age ten. He had the legendary Rinnegan, once possessed by, yes, S06P himself.He defeated Hanzo, led the infamous elite terroist group akatsuki ( publicly at least), then went on to nuke Konoha to pieces like no one else in the history of the village. In his weakened body, he was still able to revive the majority of said village with one of his techniques. Partly due to him being an uzumaki, which means he had large chakra reserves.What you call lame, controlling multiple bodies, is basically why he was called invincible since he had no blind spots, could revive said bodies, from far away, plus each of them had unique abilities and together they can defeat the vast majority of people out there- BM Naruto, Madara, Obito and Kabuto are the only favorites.
Your battle scenario:
Itachi nor Sasuke can counter CT on their own, and Nagato can counter everything in their arsenal. He can either sense and repel amaterasu, block it with one of his summons, or simply absorb the flames. He can pull them out of Susano'o with BT or tank everything 'till Sasuke or itachi run out of chakra. Lastly, Tsukuyomi probably will not work against Nagato since the latter's eyes are an evolution of the sharingan, even if it did work it is still close range so he could either keep his distance, abandon eye contact entirely and thus rely on his sensing abilities, or he could end the match with one of his power moves.
Nagato is/was simply one of the most overpowered characters, period.I'm guessing you already knew that.

People think nagato is super powerful because he is super powerful. this nigga destroyed the entire village with one almighty push. Killed jiraiya and other countless shinobi. It took naruto three sm chances and a 9 tails boost to beat him. Hell when he was revived nagato almost killed nagato and bee if it wasnt for itachi sealing him away. Case and point they dont think hes suoer powerful for nothing

I imagine a super powerful character would include a character who: took out two villages on his own; controls Gedo Mazo; has the Rinnegan's powers; never lost a fight where he was unrestricted; was the only opponent to almost beat Kurama after fighting him head on; who was able to use his power to keep a lot of S-Ranked criminals in line (even Itachi); killed Jiraiya and Kakashi.... All without using his actual body (which is said to be stronger).
Nagato has all the credentials to be considered "super powerful". The only characters, power-wise that can hold a candle to Nagato are Obito and Madara, both with the Rinnegan. Perhaps even Kabuto too.
Then you have those obvious ones who exceed him e.g. Juubi and the Rikudou Sage.
Naruto and Sasuke still have a long way to develop with their power. Yes, even after surpassing Minato and Itachi they're not on that level. That's how strong Nagato is; that's how strong people on Nagato's 'tier' are.
Plus it does say a lot when you have to handicap a character's power before he fights the main character and when he fights three top tier ninja. On top of that it should say a lot when you make him 'give up' when the main character confronts him directly.
Nagato was very strong. There's a reason Madara, Obito and even others like Zetsu, Konan and Kabuto thought highlu of his power. A lot more respect and hype on a grander scale than characters like Itachi and Jiraiya received. That says even more because Itachi and Jiraiya were pretty strong in their own right.
