Why do people think it's funny when others get hurt?

Fail compilations on YouTube, or just in general when people do something and get hurt (even if they were trying to be safe and not do something stupid). Why do people always laugh at them? Why is this funny? Personally, whenever someone injures themselves I immediately rush to their aid and try to help them if I can, not hold a camera and laugh.

First I put myself in their shoes and feel their physical pain through imagination, and that in turn instills a certain level of fear and need to protect. Honestly, if someone around me was hurt and someone laughed at it, I'd have to resist the urge to punch them. It's not funny and it shows a massive lack of maturity. I guess most people are just immature and need to be executed (for safety reasons)...I'm not sure of another cure at the moment, I'd like to know if there is a better way though.

I agre with the part that it's not funny. I don't know why people are watching stuff like that on YT, by the way I only use YT for listening to music and sometimes watch movies, I don't watch those stupid 'funny' videos...

I watched a lot of videos of people falling and found some of them to be very funny especially if they're the result of extreme stupidity.
In those videos the only thing that was actually hurt was the pride of the participants.
The only video I watched when someone was really injured, and found it unfunny and really gross , was the one when the skater fell and broke his arm in sever places so it looked really crooked and strange.

Everyone is different. You're a good person whilst some aren't.
I don't think people laugh at them when they hurt themselves, it's the way they hurt themselves. Some are stupid whilst others are careless and some just want to hurt themselves so that others will laugh with them or if the person is an attention *****.

I agree with Mottle to a degree, some people just do stupid stuff and if they aren't hurt badly then it's not horrible (I still don't laugh though). I do want to add that falling can cause severe problems, like if you land on your tailbone for instance it might simply hurt real bad at first and not seem too bad, but it could actually be fractured.

You see, I understand just how fradgile our bodies are...if you knew what I do, injuries of any degree would be considered serious. For instance, I can kill a man with one strike; there are several places that if hit in just the right way it's fatal. The human head isn't much stronger than a tomato really.

Depends on how badly they're hurt.
If it threatens their life, then i'd rush to help them, If not i'll laugh my ass off.

Personally i find it funny when people do stupid shit and get hurt, I mean they brought it on themselves for not thinking of the risks or simply not caring.

When you see someone doing something stupid or dangerous & they get hurt as a result, the natural reaction is to think they got what they deserved. When someone innocent gets hurt, the natural reaction is to think, "I'm glad it's not me".

The amount of humor someone finds in the situation directly relates to their maturity level, which is why my reaction is laughing, while your reaction is to assist the victim.
