Why do people take Databook stats so seriously?

I've always thought it was obvious that stat totals and whatnot are not meant to be a direct "power level" so to speak. They exist only to display/compare a character’s strengths and weaknesses in various areas. Comparing two character's databook stats will result in an inaccurate judgement of power. Some of you may disagree with that statement, but ask yourself this: Do you truly believe Kurenai has Itachi level genjutsu since both have 5's in that area? Not to mention Asuma and Kisame have the same stat total, so they equally matched? I think not. Sorry, I encountered some ignorance earlier and I just wanted to put this out there.

People don't understand how it works that's all. There is no problem with the using databook stats.
Exactly. Every category, speed, strength, intelligence, etc, is divided into five tiers. The stats are used to show what characters rank together.

For example, if two characters have 4 in intelligence, that doesn't mean that they are equal in intelligence, it means they are in the same tier of intelligence.

If one character has a 4 in speed, and another has a 5 in speed, it means the latter is in the higher tier.

The kids are the people who use it wrongly or don't use it at all, just because they don't understand how it's supposed to be used.

Depends if they fit into manga or not they can be taken seriously.
except none of them ''fit'' into the manga, which follows since they're an exrta-canonical source of information - ''related'' but not ''involved'' w/ the literature

..and no offense 2 U in particular , I'm just making my declarations known :)

Yes, yes they were. What does that have to do with the fact that people tend to incorrectly use them and take everything stated in them literally? Do you think Asuma and Kisame are equally matched Lol?
These stats really mean nothing in a vs discussion only feats. They just let you know how complete a character is.
