"In dark ages people were best guided by religion, as in a pitch-black night a blind man is the best guide; he knows the roads and paths better than a man who can see. When daylight comes, however, it is foolish to use blind old men as guides."
~ German poet Heinrich Heine
Today we live in the time, where Science have gave humans food, water, health, security, comfort, etc. In the same time it also gave weapons of mass destruction as well. But that doesn't means that it is at flawed. It is we humans who are actually at fault. It's pretty ironic that, "People fight for their Kind God by slaughtering the innocents, to preserve their religion by using the gifts of science." Religions according to me is nothing but an old age system that need a change now.
Now I am not against any so called Prophets. Quite contrary, I believe they were the greatest scientists, philosophers, etc. of their respective times.People before their coming, lived in hell-like conditions. Prophets such as Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, etc. discovered the causes and remedies of human suffering. Many priests wrote about the teachings and stories of these prophets and their death. Ancient holy books such as Bible and the Buddhacharita are compilations of such writings. These books advised worship, sacrifices, magic or morals to eradicate human miseries and in time, the content were changed to please their needs by the priests themselves. These ancient holy books fashioned the organised religions of today.
Mankind suffered from diseases for 3000 years without doing enough to find out their causes or remedies. Ever wondered why? Priests discouraged writings and reading of scientific books for a long period and convicted and punished several secular philosophers and scientists.
During my medical practice, I have come across major human suffering which drilled a hole in my faith in gods. Besides, in a world marked by terrorism, poverty, inequality, exploitation, injustice, crimes, etc., how is it still possible for many to even envision a kind and loving GOD?
I realized that a belief in Gods and religious practices makes us superstitious and often leads people to inaction in the hope of a miracle. The faith in supernatural powers takes away our willingness and ability to wrestle with sufferings such as poverty and illness, and we usually blame our past karma. Our present sufferings have nothing to do with our karma of past lives, if there is any to begin with. And their is very little that gods can do, if anything at all, to relieve us of suffering.
"Have you ever thought why there are many religions but only one Science? Truth is one but lies can be many."
So why do people still continue to believe in Religions in dark, when Science is their to guide them now in the light? It's nothing but pure foolishness if anything.
