Why do people say that Nagato is stronger than Naruto?

I mean Naruto defeated him.I don't know why people constantly say that Nagato is stronger.I've seen it in threads like top 10 ninjas.

How did naruto defeat him?

pain fought against the whole village and stomped them.
After , the main body was out.

and still got his ass saved by the kyuubi and minato.

Saying naruto beat nagato is like saying sasuke beat itachi. Kishi done it so we didn't get to see his full power. Naruto did beat nagato and he didn't. Nagato fought and destroyed the whole village as well as fighting naruto. If nagato wanted to kill naruto, he would be dead. he was only fighting to capture naruto which is a harder task.

We all know naruto is going to be the strongest in the whole of naruto so it doesn't matter they are both dangerous ninjas
