Musicians in their day (60s, 70s, 80s) made music

Todays musicians twerk

(At lest the ones who wanna succeed, a very sad comment on our youth really)

The beatles are legendary, one of my top 5 fav bands (only behind Led Zepp, Pink Floyd, Queen and The Who yea I know ... Britain FTW)
They made some of the most iconic and brilliant songs in the industry and still influence artists today

There is still music made today but sadly with the attention span of 3 sec make the idiots running todays music scene too popular and the good artists don't get noticed ... You know, not enough scandals

I guess whats gone is that virtuosity in music, many people nowadays regard the beatles, and many other old bands as being too simple, if you listen to The White Album and The Abby Road, they never fail to amaze, those harmonies are imposible to make, especially if you notice the time they were made in, when you didnt have all the equipment used to make music today. They were simply ahead of their time by 4 decades.

Overrated, but they did influence a truck load of bands.
Literally, there's so many bands that were in some way influenced by them.
Gotta give them credit for that.

Musically, they experimented with sounds but were by no means outstanding musicians. That is why you rarely see any live material, since they were piss poor.

because they wrote good music....much better than the crap we have our days
music was sent to the emergency room in the 80's the dr's shocked it back to life in the 90's and then it just flat out died in 2000

but i mean i get were you are coming from...i hate hippies...but it's hard to argue when they are the second most successful band in history behind elvis

Influencing other artists? That doesn't make much sense to me.
Well you're not a very bright spark then.

Plus, the fact that you refer to them as hippies tells me you know nothing about them, in which case, who are you to judge? The closest they ever got to hippie was Sgt. Peppers but even that wasn't hippie.

They revolutionised popular music and were very sophisticated for their time - they were ahead of the curve right through to their disbandment, and they constantly evolved like a good artist should. They also wrote and produced their own music unlike many pop artists today; most Western pop artists today just buy compositions and lyrics from separate composers and lyricists.

They were responsible for groundbreaking innovations in song structures, recording techniques, arrangements, sounds, instrumentations and lyrics that were copied by nearly every other rock band in the 60s and 70s. Even today there are good songwriters and bands who copy what the the Beatles did almost 50 years ago. I should also point out that albums as we know today were their doing too, because before them, albums were just an artist's hit singles compiled together, instead of the modern album which features songs which haven't been released as singles.
