Hmm I think I get what you're saying. It's true I know nothing about Justin Bieber for example, so I don't judge him, I don't recall ever bashing him or his fans, let them be. I just find his music very simplistic, and that's why it is popular: because even the most simple minded people can understand 'I love you baby lalalala'. But I know how much I have studied music and I know how much it takes to compose and perform really complicated works, and JB simply doesn't meet that standard, notwithstanding that he apparently has talents, but he wastes it in such a way that degrades music and I don't respect that. Of course noone can please everyone's taste and he doesn't have to . His music is directed towards a certain audience: sell and demand waltz once again, this time to Bieber's music. I don't hate such people, I just look down upon their activity, and I think it's ridiculous how some teens admire these stars. It becomes irritating after a time. Then some friends of mine that have dedicated their lives to music and sacrificed many things to be musicians, and are much more talented, are starving, simply because their music is not the popular mainstream category. I know,I know, the world has never been fair, and noone should hate someone just because he/she is more successful/lucky.
But again, I'm talking about their music or their public activity...not their personality- but as for their personality, they look much like media's puppets to me, and there's not much to appreciate about that.
Then there are people who have literally done nothing praiseworthy or productive to get the fame and money, they just prostituted themselves in a reality show or things like that, which is disgusting. And yes, it tells a lot about their personality: but again, it's not like I hate them personally -especially that I don't know them, but many a times they look douchebags and act like douchebags exactly because they are douchebags, and you can't blame me for calling someone by his/her name. It's just I kinda feel sorry for them and it's sad how many people enjoy such entertainment- but I know it's just that how it is, most people have always been rather simplistic and that's not necessarily the problem, but often these very people start judging others. One example: few months ago someone commented to a news video on YT that these migrant hordes in Europe should be shot to death, and when I tried to argue, he made a reference -after checking my channel, I guess- to me being a delusional fool coz I like classical music. So, yeah, I think there is a correlation between one's intelligence and the music he/she listens to and the people he/she admires.
But I guess I digressed. I understand your point, to hate something simply because it's popular, without any further arguments, is stupid. (Popularity is not necessarily a bad thing, after all, but sadly, somehow stupidity and stupid things have the tendency to spread faster.)
