Well I think there are multiple reasons for it. Such as they are young and belive that bashing your favorite make their favorite seem Better because you didn't have a better insult in there mind. Or they are so wrapped up in a character that they have become emotionally attached and will defend them by showing how bad yours is so there's must be better these are both due to immaturity. Then you have the ones who find pleasure in making you unhappy by bashing your favourite character.or have on a personal level identified a character as themselves either aspiring to be like or have many of the same personality traits with abilities that the person can't match. Me I like naruto because he won't give up on a friend and he is dedicated. I also like the Aburame clan controlling bugs and can communicate with them anywhere its green you know all that is cool.
