The only "free" powerups that are asspulls are ones without any hints at all.
Like Neji getting mokuton would be an asspull (even more so that he is dead).
Sakura's Yin seal is debatably an ass pull, but it was hinted for her to summon Katsuyu as soon as Tsunade started training her. Once we saw the medic seal, that was also hinted as Sakura became a medic and trained under Tsuande.
Though the reason it is debatable is the fact that Sakura never mentioned storing up chakra for it. So it was kind of out of nowhere. I personally am Glad she has it.
