Why do music records just matter in the US and the UK?

Everyone only counts hit songs in these two countries. For example, when talking about number one hits with Elvis Presley, the music industry only focuses on what songs went to number one in only these two countries. It is said Elvis has 30 #1 hits worldwide (tho this is just the songs that went to number one between the US and the UK). Same with the Beatles, it's said they have 27 #1 hits worldwide; however, it's actually just 27 songs that went to number one between the UK and the US.

Why is this? Why is the US and the UK the 2 big countries the music industry focuses on?

My guess is more accessibility to music. In more strict governments, they monitor everything that comes from an outside source heavily.

Because the 'music industry' you're referring to exists in the USA and the UK.

Because, in the languages you read and understand (as well as listen to), the U.S. and U.K. are the two largest and most influential nations with the best sales reporting standards.

Because they're the main players.

But they've never disregarded other chartings/sales worldwide. Just like how Elvis has a confirmed worldwide sales of 207 million and The Beatles, 264 million.
