But explosions are fun, and they sell for a targeted audience :sdo:

Anakin: "From my point of view the boobies are evil"
Obi-Wan : "Then you are lost!"
Depends how they're done, much like the Male Gaze. Fanservice CAN be used smartly, see manipulation of Lust, Femme Fatales (the trope, not the Sakura wanker) etc.

Explosions/action can be done well but mainstream media chooses simply not to. Tits and big boomys used shamelessly are making us dumber.

Its mainly for the fanservice and personally I find these kind of women the most interesting. It gives an anime more worth if these characters are there and they get the big bucks but no all types of people prefer these female characters.

What Mulvey? she's a feminist, so that's expected of her. :sdo:

Japan is such a closeted nation sexually. If you wanna give the 'It's fantasy! Why not!!!!' Argument then listen up.

Dramatic glorification of women (Hinata, Blair, Nami, Yoko, Orihime etc) is big tits and generally submissive personality. All very intact with their femininity, their body types are nigh-on impossible for their ages and Oda's in particular are disgusting even in a fantasy world tbh. They're stereotypical 'fantasy' women.

Then you do the same for men, the action men, the Schwarzenegger, the He-Man etc. Where are they in anime now?

Fist of the North Star, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Berserk, Dragonball Z....the sexualised image of anime men is completely a thing of the past. These mangas are from the 1980s & 90s for godsakes. We're not expected to look like this to an Eastern audience even though that is 'fantasy' in the same exact way all females in anime are expected to be.

Armstrong from FMA & the rest of the muscle-bound stereotypes these days are comic relief, and looked as at eccentric and strange. All shonen heroes are slender, suave-looking young men now. Resembling actual people, being relatable & being treated with respect. WE'VE GOTTEN PAST THIS. So why not the same for females? Because pulp mainstream anime is for horny little 12 year old boys and it needs to outgrow this bad habit already.

Sorry if it's not what you wanna hear, but it's plain wrong. There's exceptions to the rule (Mei & Tsunade aren't sexualised for the sake of it and it's a part of their character) but in so many cases...it's just not. All the best female leads are rarely sexualised. (Maka Albarn, Rukio, Mikasa, Annie, Winry, Nia, ANY Ghibli creation because they actually get it)

I can deal with a little bit of titty in my anime, but can we please not try normalise this really weird outdated thing please.

Feminist film theorists and their interpretation and incorporation of Lacanian Psychoanalysis are, to put it mildly, shallow.
So...that's why Sight & Sound's greatest #1 film of all time currently revolves around this very subject? (???)

Vertigo is all about the Male Gaze and Hitchcock's involvement with sexuality, the male ego & Hollywood.....I don't get why people dismiss anything they see the word feminist in...

It's just political drama, and an insidious one tbh, read more on Lacan, Freud, Schopenhauer.
