ik this isnt worth making its own thread for and i apologize in advance.

but why do humans empathize with other human struggle so much, especially when we even realize that its pre-recorded or has an outsome we cant control?

i was wondering because i was watching a ninja warrior type show and felt myself jittering or becoming tense at certain points

what is it that makes us so on edge about watching others perform/compete etc?

i guess. but i was looking for a bit more of a scientific/universal reason.

nice bio btw
Its kind of difficult to explain using logic and science. It just happens, really. Generally, when people feel empathy, its when people recognise that another person is going through a certain situation or event, and because you understand the impact or tone of that situation, you think to yourself; "I hope this person gets through it". Which would explain the reason you tense up when you see the big jumps, because you know there's a physical impact on the guy. It comes down to understanding, really.

Thanks lol.

based on expectations.

take away your expectation and you get rid most of your feelings towards other people.

you feel tense because you'd want to see your expected outcome.
really comes down to "doubt" in your case.

you know the outcome = fail, but you have that desire that the contestant overcome the obstacle.
so "hope" may be derived in there as well?

prediction/expectation, take your pick because scientifically speaking, those thoughts would release endorphins in your body that will put you on edge. The amount is based on how much perceived stress/excitement you are going through.

It is a mechanism that will prepare us for the outcome, like your flight/fight mechanism. Your brain preps your body by pumping it up with hormones so you are ready to react in a split second.

If you fight it, you will feel jittery/anxious about things. Your brain becomes hyperactive because you are not doing anything with your body, which is waiting on you to react to that "dangerous" situation.

So I hope that helps?

your empathy is derived from an expectation/hope. nothing more/less.
your reaction is based off of that expectation.

I think it's because they understands the pains you can't really be empathetic with someone if you don't understand their pain .

and what you felt on that show might be adrenaline rush of excitement .

My question is why refer to others in general by human i mean what the hell are we robots when we say that just say people it looks quite awkward using our species name
