If a guy says he hates chick flicks it's likely because he's acting how he thinks society expects him to act. After all hates a strong word, I don't like most chick flicks but I can still tolerate watching them unless they are just plain terrible in terms of plot and acting.

Or I/they just really hate them. I/hey hate movies I find boring.

Probably because some think it emasculates them. Sometimes society dictates and expects too much from men, and it's up to the person if he wants to follow it or not.

There's a lot of women in my family , and I guess I just grew up tolerating the chick flicks. When with friends or exes, 'twas also nice to see and hear their reactions. You get to understand from their POV why their ovaries quiver seing Ryan Gosling and they squeal over Gerard Butler's body and Irish accent.
