The success of a relationship is determined by many things, but the number one factor is timing; meeting the right person at the right time in one's life. You could have met your perfect partner at the wrong time in your life, and it just wasn't destined to work out: not mature enough, different life goals, different values, not financially secure, lack of desire to settle into a monogamous relationship, substance abuse, lack of emotional development, poor physical condition, etc.
