Why didn't Tobirama not release himself from the Edo Tensei?

This is a great question! But yeah, like someone said probably for the plot. If he released himself he and hiruzen together would have killed orochimaru easily and it would ruin the plot and stuff. Also, to the person that said only madara can do it.. Wow.. Tobirama created the jutsu i'm pretty sure he knows how to get out of the contract too.

You're right him release the jutsu and turning against Orochimaru and defeating him would've probaly finished Naruto and head right into Shippudden lol

lol true. It could also be like the others have mentioned though, maybe it was because Orochimaru still had some sort of control over him. Because in Madaras case the summoner was completely out of the picture.

I get part 1 of Naruto being completely different to part 2 because he made it up as it went along but come on stick to script, if the creator could not release it then it should be the almighty Madara f**king Uchiha really? They're were other things Kishi could've did like Kabuto could've made Madara a extra special Edo from the others lol. The plot thickens. Kishi's mind is f**king crazy sometimes but genius

Orochimaru was the only character to have complete control over someone during edo tensei. Imagine if he was in this war, he would most likely have complete control over Madara.

Yea I just watched the intro part to the fight between Orochimaru and the 3rd he did completely take away their will, so I was wrong but still

Kabuto has had complete control over some Edo characters. Nagato was one of them.

Kabuto can easily do the same, he just chose not to when it came to Madara because he wanted to see what he was capable of on his own. He had full control of Mu at one point, and Nagato as well.
