Why didn't Shikamaru use Sound flute?

I never understood this, Shikamaru was able to control tayuya body thanks to his shadow, Shikamaru control where to hold the holes and how to blow so Shikamaru knows how Tayuya technique work, how come Shikamaru didn't make Tayuya his own technique?

Imagine Shikamaru usuing sound genjutsu and summoning the 3 beasts along with using shadow techniques.

He may have been able to direct her movements towards certain holes, but he make can't her breathe into them.

That's not how it works. Shadow-possessing someone doesn't give you their skills and abilities, or controls their mind. It just makes them a mirrored puppet. Assuming Shikamaru knew or could figure out how to use Tayuya's Demon Flute from simple observation, which is unlikely in and of itself, he couldn't use Tayuya's jutsus, because her mind is still her own, so anything he makes her do, Tayuya would still be able to control/command it. The Doki and genjutsu would still be hers.

Anyone can put fingers over holes and blow :Sparks: and Shikamaru would definitely remember the notes and seals for the summons but there's probably more to it. It could be a clan thing or Shikamaru would have to spend years mastering how to blow right and hit the right tones etc. Like learning any other instrument.

Only Tayuya could blow that pipe hard enough. Shikamaru can try but I doubt Temari would be happy.

Did you even actually see the fight because that's exactly what happened.

I actually don't remember that exact fight too well. I can only recall the basics of how it went. But learning how something works and learning how to use it are not the same thing. I can assume Shikamaru figured out the gist of how the flute works from simple observation, but do you think that's enough to say he could pick up the flute and replicate Tayuya's jutsus just from watching it being done?

EDIT: Actually went and looked into it, and it seems like I'm wrong. >.< At least concerning the Doki. I'll admit my error and retract that point. Tayuya can still dispel them if she loses control of them, though, so the answer to the question "Can Shikamaru use Tayuya's jutsus by shadow-possessing her?" is still no. Just not technically.

I agree with you about him not being able to use the jutsu but for the reason someone else pointed out, shadow possession wouldn't let him control her breathing. Even if he knows what notes to play to do what he can't make Tayuya play those notes.

I have to reread the manga of those chapter to remember.

But think of it this way. Shikamaru control Tayuya's hands to cover the whole, then for breathing there two choice

1st Tayuya's willing does proper breathe to use jutsu for Shikamaru
2nd Shikamaru is controlling Tayuya's breathe

If the answer is 2nd, then Shikamaru should know how to use the flute, but as for the Jutsu that I am not sure.

The only way shadow possession could make Tayuya play the notes would to make her hands cover the holes through mimicry then Shikamaru would need to use his strangulation version to push her head to the mouth piece and squeeze her stomach hard enough to force her to breath out.

Could it also be something to where the flute requires chakra to use? We have seen that other ninja tools have similar requirements.
