Why didn't Sasuke try to help Naruto?

Obito tried to crush Sasuke's skull and Naruto helped him, Naruto even gave him some chakra so that he would be FTG'ed out of the barrier but this time Naruto was about to get killed by the God Tree and Sasuke just stayed on the sideline watching Naruto get raped by the tree.
Was Sasuke afraid to go in there or after knowing how powerful Naruto have gotten he now wants Naruto gone?
The look that they both gave each other meant something as if Naruto knows his true intentions.

Sasuke protected Naruto many times before during this battle. You're right, in this latest chapter he just stood there. Maybe it's because the stuff that is happening now is the thing he was waiting for.

Umm... Sasuke didn't need Naruto's help with the barrier. Sasuke just wanted to know if Naruto had a better plan that's all. Besides Sasuke saving Naruto again would be far too cliche! I believe Kuro has a point! Sasuke must of seen the 3rd on his way to Naruto!
