Its either plot no jutsu's idiocy, or that she needed to tell kakashi, or show kakashi that she wanted to die, not that they killed her, so that he doesnt rampage onto them possibly killing himslef.

Plot has nothing to do with it, Raikiri through the heart is a near instant/painless death compared to holding a kunai in your own hand to end yourself. Doing that is far more physiological not only that but unless you are right on spot you are still alive for a few moment's just waiting to bleed out enough.
