Killing Konohamaru would have been a better choice because this way he could have made Hiruzen feel what it was like to lose something important (the Hokage title (and his parents of course but it wasn't Hiruzen's fault))

Orochimaru doesn't do petty things like that.
He wasn't out for revenge because he lost the kage tittle it was merely a position to grant him more authority over the village so he could do more of his research he never desired to truly rule the village.

You also make it sound like hiruzen wasn't already upset and hurt over oro leaving and becoming evil.

Well when Orochimaru attacks Konoha, he's basically intending to harm Konohamaru and everybody else Hiruzen loves. Plus Orochimaru doesn't seem to go for the die-hard most efficient way all the time, like how he didn't try killing Kakashi and taking Sasuke under his wing until he wanted to, or the fact that he let Anko live.
