why didn't naruto train using clones during this time skip

He is so rusty , what makes it worse that naruto got beat by fodders is the fact he has to go into a stage that should be only reserved for fighting against Madara and kaguya . He should of used clones to refine his base mode and learn new techniques whilst inventing powerful techniques like the 1st hokage , 2nd hokage and 4th hokage instead he hasnt improved his base and has to go biju mode against 3 bar sharingan users there is no excuse for a real hokages to show children one of their most formidable techniques even when defending weak non ninja's . (sadara and the other girl) .Naruto Gaiden would get soloed by pein if he came back to the village , the only reason he would stand a chance is because the sixth kakashi and sasuke would be there to support him .

Get your facts straight, Naruto wasn't "beat". They (Naruto and Sasuke) underestimated their adversary and didn't have intel on his abilities. You talk as if Naruto lost in a straight up confrontation which we both know would never happen based on the fact that this dude got KO'ed by Sakura.

With the amount of Chakra and Stamina Naruto has, going into his Super Modes at this point feels like his natural state. He only does so because he can't afford to act recklessly anymore, not with children present. Protecting the children in his Chakra mode is a much safer bet than trying to protect them with his base abilities.

Had Kishi not nerfed Nardo and Sauce, he could have both of them blitz and deliver their signature moves on Onion head Sr and Jr and end Gaiden in one chapter.
