Why didn't naruto sense where yamato is anyway?

Last time i checked naruto in sage mode can sense chakra from far away was yamato's chakra suppresed? And even if it was, mu is an excellent ninja at hiding his chakra and naruto could still sense him... So whats the hold up?

Either kishi has completely forgotten about him or it's all plot. Kishi might be building up to Yamato's return.

Another plot I believe, he sensed everyone on the battleground, them being, literally miles away from him.
Maybe they'll prove later that the place that he's kept in is protected by a barrier though.
