Why didn't Naruto pull this trick more often?

Considering Shadow Clones are his go-to, this was a really smart set-up he used against Captain Yamato in the teamwork simulation.

In this chapter, Sai was actually a Naruto clone disguised to look like Sai. It allowed the real Sai to trick Yamato and capture him but this would have any number of uses.

-Pretend you've been captured by an enemy, only to have that person rasengan their comrade.
-Tricking an enemy into thinking they're outnumbered.
-Conjure up the image of a famous ninja that has a run-on sight order.

It's basically real life genjutsu and it's insanely cool. Good in any situation where the opponent expects something.

OT wouldn't work much unless he knew said persons fighting style and abilities. Him using Rasengan made Yamato know that was a clone and escaped.

much like genjutsu it only works based on getting the subtleties right. Something naruto sucks at.

I mean, he fooled Yamato no? Fooling Jonin would be enough of an edge to make it useful for most of Shippuden. If Sexy no Jutsu can save the world and fool demigods then unpredictable ninja techs are what Naruto excels at.

No, didnt fool yamato, the moment rasengan came out it fell apart. Something even chunin Sai pointed out

Ah cool, that was my favourite arc when I was young. Must reread. The tech still showed promise for the other things I mentioned it for. Also it acted as a pretty good distraction for Sai, intentionally or not.
