Why didn't Madara have children?

I know that he is only fond of Hashi's wood, but for the sake of his plan, shouldn't he have created a legacy?
Instead of relying on some orphaned Uchiha fodder(Obito), he could have made his family carry out his plans for him.
This would work especially well because he could brainwash his children at birth.
